In the course of time Kanhiyapur probably got abriviated as the Kanhapur and subsequently as kanpur ( The amglicized spelling of which was named as Cawnpur during the british rule). Others believe that the name is derived from Karanpur and is associated with karna, one of the heroes of Mahabharata. Duryodhana made Karna a King, seeing him as a fitting match to Arjuna, and gifted him this area; hence the name Karanpur, ehich later become Kanpur.

The Kanpur Memorial Church was built in 1875, in honors of the british who lost their lives in the war of 1857.

Jajmau ...(Popularly known as Jajmau ka tila/kila)

The mound of Jajmau, on the eastern and of city occupies a high place among the ancient sites of the region. Excavations of the mound were undertaken during 1957-58 which uneartherned antiquities ranging from 600 BC to 1600 AD. Jajmau is known as siddhpuri in olden times, is supposed to have been the kingdom of Yayati, the pauranic king and the high mound overhanging the ganga is known as the site of his fort.

Kamla Retreat :

Lies to the west of the agriculture college in immediate neighborhood of the Allen Forest. It is under the possession of the Singhania Family and is a beauty spot of the city. There is a swimming tank with the equipment for producing artificial waves and suitable arrangement for lighting. Besides parks and a canal with the facilities for boating a zoo is also maintained. Kamla retreat also houses a museum, which has a good collection of historical and archaeological artifacts. Phool Bagh:

It is beautiful park in the heart of the city on the Mall Road. In the center of the park is a building known as the Ganesh Shanker Vidhyarthi memorial ( K.E.M. Hall). After the first world war there was a orthopedic Hospital in this building. It is now known as Ganesh udhyan.

Dwarka Deesh Temple:

Situated adjesant to the Kamla Tower, This temple is dedicated to the worskip of the Lord Krishna. The Jhoola dedicated in the swan is worth viewing viewing it.

Green Park Stadium:

The Green Park Stadium is named after Madam Green who used practice Horse-Riding here in 1940's India's first Test win over Australia in December 1959 was at the Green Park ground. It was also the first match to be played on a turf wicket here.[1]. Off-spinner Jasubhai Patel's 14 wickets were instrumental in ensuring India's win.Green Park Stadium is a 45,000 capacity floodlit multi-purpose stadium located in Kanpur, India, and the home of the Uttar Pradesh cricket team. The stadium is under the control of the Sports Department Uttar Pradesh. It is the only international cricket stadium in Uttar Pradesh that has hosted many international cricket matches of both Test and One Day format.

Bithoor:

The Bithorr situated on the bank of River Ganga. It is very popular tourist place in India where pupil used to visit from all the places from country. It has the good looking river sides. The Ganaga is less wide this place.
